‘Akasarasa’ is a charming bird print based on a fragment found during a trip to the Tohoku region of Japan. It features graceful floral and butterfly elements overlaying a deep rust red stencil dye pattern. The original document is thought to have been made during the late Edo Period during the mid-1800s and was most likely used as votive cloth by farmers hoping for abundant crops.
